San Javier & Beyond

Yesterday we left Loreto and headed into the mountains to visit another mission. The Mission de San Francisco Javier Vigge Biaundo was established in 1699, the church standing on the site today was completed in 1758. Not much happening in the little village, but the drive (on mostly paved roads) was enjoyable.

After walking through the mission and around the village we headed out to the "beyond" on a not so good gravel/sand/ stone road. Slow going, so we just pulled off the road and spent the night in "nowhere" - much better than trying to drive in the dark.

Our roadside camp
We "air down" the tires for the really rough gravel roads - here we "air up" as we get ready to return to a paved road.

Just checked temps, mid-80s daytime, mid-60s nighttime. How's the water? Too cold to go snorkeling?

No snorkeling/swimming, water too cold for us old guys.
Beautiful church inside and out! Loved seeing it. Not so sure about staying in 'Nowhere"...
These pics give me the impression that you are the only ones in Mexico (not many other vehicles or humans). Is that true or just coincidence?

Michael - We tend to avoid places with crowds, that coupled with my desire to explore "off the main road" usually means we don't encounter a lot of the more traditional tourists. Tonight we are camped on a bluff overlooking the Pacific, nearest neighbor about a mile distant. Hard to beat!
I can understand not seeing other people on the long way roads. Great pictures.
