Snow & Sand

After entering New Mexico I did one of my favorite things - a drive on a twisty mountain road. Up into the Sacramento Mountains and the Lincoln National Forest I went and then (topping out at 8650 feet in Cloudcroft) down the other side. Great drive!

I descended into Alamogordo (of H-Bomb fame) and just past town, stopped in at the White Sands National Monument and lucked into a guided sunset tour of the dunes. These dunes are the world's largest gypsum dunefield, covering 275 square miles. Interesting tour and spectacular scenery.
