Weather Delay

We were supposed to be in Sitka this morning but a storm with high winds and rain kept our AMHS ferry from making the trip. We'll try again on Saturday.

Despite the bad weather weve managed to visit two museums and a fish hatchery, plus do a little shopping. Juneau has been interesting - our only complaint, too many tourists. They arrive on cruise ships and then take all manner of shore excursions, trying to "experience Alaska" in a week - we consider ourselves very lucky.

Beginning next week on 17th, Thursday, weather in Sitka will worsen to 10-15 mph winds and constant rain and winds for several days, hope you two have windbreaking rain gear with flannel linings! It's still better than being stuck with cruise boat tourists for several days :)

I've never had much faith in weather forecasts and here in Alaska their accuracy has been terrible. We just wake up and deal with what we get. Having the right gear does help.
It good to see posts again.Weather sure can control things and we have to deal with it. You were lucky to get to the museums.Sounds like you need to get south.
How big is Juneau? I hope things get better so you can get on the road.
Safe travels.

30,000 folks in Juneau, pretty small for a state capital.Juneau is unusual among U.S. capitals in that there are no roads connecting the city to the rest of Alaska or to the rest of North America.
