Refreshing

I'm still in the Ocala National Forest and will spend the next two nights in the Alexander Springs campground. Today I did a short 1 mile hike and then decided to take a dip in the spring - little cool, both the air and water temp where around 72 degrees, refreshing.

I lived in northern Florida for about five years and you can find these fresh water springs all over the place; some much bigger than others. They offer excellent swimming and diving. I scuba dived in one and discovered very large eels, similar to Moray eels, but brown in color, hiding in crevasses. I guess they come out to feed at night. We had gone down into the first chamber under the open chamber to see the eels. You were perfectly safe. :) There was one spring we loved to swim in near Lake City, Florida called Ichtucknee Springs. I understand it is commercialized now but when we went swimming there, it was just "back in the woods". Nothing stays the same.
